Tuesday:
Take a look at the latest Chroma Magazine and find a series that you really enjoy.  Write a note to the photographer, on paper, and tell the photographer what it is that intrigues you about their series.  Do you have any questions for the photographer?  Example:
How did you come up with this idea, what was your inspiration, what lens did you use, how much editing did you do, what was difficult about this series?

Please read the intro to this article as well as Myth #3 and #4:
https://petapixel.com/2016/01/30/10-myths-about-the-rule-of-thirds/

Photo 3,

I miss you guys! I really truly do.  So many amazing creative bright souls in one class period.  You will be memorable to me, as the years continue to add up for me.

I have a sub today because my dad, who you recall was fiercely suffering for months, died the last day of the year.  Pretty cool day to die, if you ask me.  l am thankful that his suffering is over, and I of course dream that he is with my mother playing music.

YOUR ASSINMENT:
I wanted to have you create something today that both pushes you and honors your level of creative skill.  Today you will create a self portrait.  The only requirements are:

YOU must take the photo.

Turn into Self Portrait in Google Drive.  I will give you credit for turning it in by the end of the period.

Use photoshop, art skills, lighting, duplication, and anything else your magnificent developing minds come up with.  I can't wait to see what you create.
Here's a link to a Google Slide for the assignment:

September 21st
Boring

Each student will be assigned a boring item to photograph.  The student will work with a partner, assisting one another with their lighting and set up of the boring item.

Things to consider:
What makes something insignificant suddenly catch our eye? How do everyday items adopt new significance or gain visual interest? How can a mundane object develop in poignancy.

Your mundane object may be:
cotton balls, clear tape,  a white box, or still life props painted white.

Lighting can include:
Natural light
Light boxes
Reflective light
Direct studio light
Indirect studio light

Lighting – how the play of light across an object may draw attention, be it the deliberate shining of a spotlight, or the timely passing of a sunbeam.
Placement – how the isolating of an object e.g. cordoning off, restricting access, framing, placing on a shelf, plinth etc. might give it greater significance.
Contrast - how an object might be in visual contrast with its environment (via color, scale, tone etc.), or be encountered out of context - experienced as an unexpected or surreal juxtaposition, in contrast with our usual expectations

September 11-15th
Respond to the following prompts in your journal:

1. Does the camera see more than the photographer?
2. Does a photographer have a responsibility for the image beyond the act of taking it?
3. Should there be a moral or an aesthetic limit to images of atrocity?

Watch the video in class and share your thoughts with a person next to you.

This week:

Students should have their sd card ready to go.  We will begin the week by sharing out the Principles of Design and Elements of Art photographs taken during class on Thursday of last week.
